Lee Beers, MD, is a Professor of Pediatrics and the Interim Associate Director for the Center for Translational Research at Children’s National Hospital, and the A. James & Alice B. Clark Distinguished Professor of Early Childhood Intervention and Advocacy. She is also the Medical Director for Behavioral Health Initiatives for the Pediatric Health Network in Washington DC. Dr. Beers oversees the Children’s National’s Community Mental Health CORE, which includes initiatives such as the Early Childhood Innovation Network and serves as a catalyst to elevate the standard of mental health care for every young person in Washington DC. She was the 2021 President of the American Academy of Pediatrics and received the 2019 Public Policy and Advocacy Award from the Academic Pediatric Association. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of Zero to Three, and the Pediatric Academic Societies. Dr. Beers earned her medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine and completed a pediatric residency at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia. Prior to joining Children’s National, she was a general pediatrician at the Naval Hospital in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
